ELDER CARE

Old Age Care and the allied issues have been perturbing the state for the last few decades. The responsible younger generation needs to be sensitive to this burning issue. In this direction, the college has made an intelligent intervention through the initiative of Department of Commerce. The programme was designed with the objective of providing proper awareness and training to the students for caring the older generation. The very purpose of this programme is to address this issue in a systematic and scientific manner.

Works already done:                                                                         

Stage 1 : Our students conducted a comprehensive survey of elder people in selected nearby Local Self Government Institutions Viz.Chavara, Neendakara and Thekkumbhagom.

Stage 2 : Consolidated the data base and submitted the report to respective LSGIs and Kudumbashree.

Stage 3 : Participated in discussions held by LSGIs, Kudumbashree and the then Local Member of Legislative Assembly and Minister for Labour Welfare.

Stage 4 : Participated in the Launching of E-NHG programme of National Rural Livelihood Mission through Kudumbashree.

Proposed Programmes:

Stage 1 : Conduct a social audit of E-NHG Scheme implemented in Chavara Grama Panchayath and submit the report to Kudumbashree and the respective LSGI.

Stage 2 : Evaluate the scope of extending the project to two more LSGIs in Chavara, viz.Panmana and Thevalakkara, by conducting a detailed survey of the Elder Population and submit the consolidated report to Kudumbashree and Local Self Government Institutes.

Stage 3 : Develop the Ladies rest room in the campus as a retiring centre for the elder people in the nearby area, formulate their Self Help Group (SHG), and enable them to get benefits from National Rural Livelihood Mission through Kudumbashree etc.

Stage 4 : Develop a platform to interact between the students of the department with that of the Elder people through different programmes.

Stage 5 : Arrange field visit for one day for grandparents accompanied and organized by children of the college.
